Herbert Schuster

After my conversion to Orthodoxy by Fr. George Mamangakis of the Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, I quickly became involved with teaching religious education classes. Within a short time, I became a GOYA advisor and finally a member of the Parish Council.

With the birth of Kristiana and Stefan, my family and I became members of Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church. I taught religious education and have continued doing so for over the 30 years that we have now been members of this community. I also became a GOYA advisor during my children’s participation. Recently, I became an associate member of Philoptochos.

I have been a research medicinal chemist for Novartis as well as an adjunct professor at both FDU in Madison and Simmons College in Boston. I earned my BS in chemistry from UMass in Amherst, Mass., my MS in chemistry from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and my PhD in chemistry from Rutgers in Newark. My passion to understand God and the deeper nature of our faith has been a challenging journey and has led me to experience the spiritual life of Mount Athos.

My goal is to have us each answer the challenge to “Come and See” what a difference Jesus can make living our lives in our postmodernity.
